What Is an ISP Lookup?
An ISP lookup identifies the internet service provider
and network information associated with a public IP
address. This can help you understand which provider
operates a network and where the IP address is
approximately located.
Enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address above to check available
information such as the ISP, organization, autonomous
system number (ASN), country, region, city and timezone.
What Information Can an ISP Lookup Show?
Depending on the IP address and available registration
data, an ISP lookup may provide several types of network
information.
-
ISP:
the internet service provider associated with the IP.
-
Organization:
the organization or network operator associated with
the address.
-
ASN:
the Autonomous System Number used to identify an
autonomous network on the internet.
-
Country and region:
an approximate geographic location associated with
the network.
-
City:
an approximate city-level location when available.
-
Timezone:
the timezone associated with the reported location.
What Is an ASN?
An ASN, or Autonomous System Number, identifies an
autonomous system that exchanges routing information
with other networks on the internet. Internet service
providers, hosting companies, cloud platforms and large
organizations can operate autonomous systems.
ASN information is useful when investigating network
ownership, routing, hosting infrastructure and the
organization behind a public IP address.
Can an ISP Lookup Find Someone's Exact Location?
No. An IP address generally does not provide a person's
exact physical address through a normal public lookup.
Geographic information shown by IP databases is
approximate and may represent a city, region, datacenter,
exchange point or another location associated with the
network.
ISP lookup results should therefore be treated as
network-level information rather than an exact
representation of where a person is physically located.
ISP Lookup FAQ
What is an ISP?
An ISP, or Internet Service Provider, is a company
or organization that provides internet connectivity
to customers, businesses or other networks.
What IP addresses can I check?
You can check public IPv4 or IPv6 addresses.
Private addresses such as 192.168.1.1 are not
publicly routable and normally cannot be mapped
to a public ISP in the same way.
Is ISP lookup the same as IP lookup?
They overlap, but an ISP lookup focuses primarily
on the network provider and related information,
while a general IP lookup may provide additional
geographic or technical details.
Why can the ISP or location be incorrect?
IP databases are based on network registration,
routing and geographic datasets. Addresses can
move between providers, organizations or
datacenters, so results may not always represent
the current physical location perfectly.
